_____________________________________________________________________________
Electronic Media is a new form
of communication. Unlike many other forms of communication,
Electronic Media present a unique combination of text, image,
sound, and interactivity which represents both an opportunity
and a challenge to today's students. A new form of communication
requires learning new skills. Thus, just as a student takes
a writing course, not because he or she is intending to
become a novelist, but because writing is a useful skill
to develop, so a course in Electronic Media, will give the
student similarly useful communications skills regardless
of the student's area of study. In fact, the ability to
"read" and "write" electronic media is a basic life skill
required of everyone who wants successfully to navigate
in the contemporary world we are preparing students for.
The Electronic Media Program is ideal for those wishing to
gain skills in:
- Multimedia
- Video
- CD-ROM
- Digital Audio
- Digital Imaging
- Computer Animation
- Computer-mediated Communication
All students in the Electronic
Media Option or Certificate Program are required to take Electronic
Media Portfolio (COM 203) in their final semester. This course
gives students an oportunity to design and complete a final
project integrating two or more areas of Electronic Media.
This project, as well as a portfolio of work accomplished
while in the program, must be presented before a committee
composed of faculty from Electronic Media and faculty or mentors
from other areas.
